Crash Course: Tarkovsky

Crash Course: Tarkovsky

Cost:  $30 ($25 members)

Thursday, April 3rd

Andrei Tarkovsky is an auteur like no other. Giving us only seven feature films in his brief lifetime, his work aimed to elevate cinema to a higher art form and explore the power of film’s ability to capture time. Ingmar Bergman described his work as “like a miracle…Tarkovsky is for me the greatest, the one who invented a new language, true to the nature of film, as it captures life as a reflection, life as a dream.”

In this crash course, we will be watching four of his films and get a chance to dive deep into the many layers of his work. If you enjoy slow cinema, mesmerizing cinematography, dream logic and characters in spiritual crisis, you’ll be sure to love this class!

MMU Crash Course classes offer a low-intensity way to explore a filmmaker or genre, in a friendly environment shared with fellow film lovers. Unlike our MMU seminars, Crash Courses offer a more casual approach. There’s no formal lecture or discussion, but films are curated and presented by staff experts.
